Delco-Remy Alternator, Disassemble and Assemble

Disassemble

Mark position of drive bearing and slip ring bearing with light centre punching.

Do not damage winding ends during disassembly.

Unscrew drive end bearing from slip ring bearing.

Remove slip ring bearing with stator.

Unscrew V-belt pulley nuts - if necessary, counterhold with Allen key.

Remove V-belt pulley and fan from rotor shaft.

Press rotor out of drive bearing and remove outer spacer ring from rotor shaft.

Unscrew bolts of ball bearing retainer and remove washers.

Press out ball bearing using KM - 150 - 1 and KM - 150 - 2 or suitable pieces of pipe.

Unbolt winding ends from diode plate. Remove stator from slip ring bearing.

Unscrew inner regulator bolt and remove excitation diodes " 1 ".

Unscrew brush holder "2".

Unscrew outer regulator bolt, remove contact rail and remove regulator.

Remove positive and negative connection pins.

Note insulation parts of positive connection pin.

Press connection pins inwards and remove with diode plate.

Only remove needle bearing if there is suspicion that it is defective.

Press needle bearing out of slip ring bearing using KM - 151 - 1 and KM - 151 - 2 or suitable pieces of pipe.
