Shock Absorber (Saloon / Sedan), Replace > < Stabiliser and/or all Rubber Parts of the Stabiliser, Replace

Shock Absorber (Estate), Replace

Caution

Only remove shock absorbers one after another but replace them in pairs.

  Remove

Fold up boot floor covering, unscrew cover with 4 fastening screws (1).

Unscrew fastening nut (2) from piston rod, remove plate (3) and underlying rubber buffers. Raise vehicle.

Vehicles with vehicle level control: Release pressure line connection from shock absorber by pressing on spring clamp (4) and remove.

Unbolt shock absorber (5) from semi-trailing arm and remove. Lower vehicle.

  Install

Insert shock absorbers into shock absorber dome from wheel housing with piston rod – align shock absorber fastening lug (4) at semi-trailing arm and attach – tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft. Install rubber buffer (3), plate (2) and new fastening nut (1) from above – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.

Caution

Vehicles with vehicle level control: Note installation position of pressure line connection. Charge new shock absorber slightly with compressed air. Raise vehicle. Install pressure line connection on shock absorber.

  Inspect

Check gasket of assembly cover, replace if necessary.

Vehicles with vehicle level control: Check function of vehicle level control – see operation "Automatic Vehicle Level Control, Check".

  Install

Bolt on assembly cover. Install luggage compartment floor covering.
