Brake Servo, Check Function
With engine stopped, eliminate vacuum in brake servo by pumping
brake pedal several times. Then push pedal down and hold in this
position. Start engine. Brake servo system is OK if brake pedal
drops further. If brake pedal does not drop, vacuum system (vacuum
hoses, check valve) should be checked. If no defect is revealed,
the defect is in brake servo itself.

Caution
If, in vehicles with diesel engines, the brake is actuated for a
long time, the vacuum is expended. The brake pedal sinks relatively
quickly to the floor panel and is spongy. In vehicles with diesel
engines, this is not a cause for complaint, as the pressure in the
brake system actually increases. This can be demonstrated by
connecting a pressure tester to the brake caliper.
