Piston, Replace

  Remove

Carefully lever out retaining ring (1) with screwdriver and press out piston pin.

Caution

Piston and piston pin are paired to each other and must not be mixed up.

  Measure

Before installing the piston, measure the piston installation play. Measure diameter of piston with commercially available micrometer, 7 mm (I) from lower edge of piston and offset by 90° from piston pin axis.

Determine value at the micrometer.

  Adjust

Insert appropriate insert and Gauge MKM-571-B into precision micrometer and use micrometer to set Gauge MKM-571-B to "0".

  Measure

Measure cylinder bore at bottom (3), centre (2) and top (1) alternating crosswise.

Piston installation play: with new engine: 0.031 to max. 0.063 mm; with used engine: up to max. 0.15 mm.

Example:

Cylinder bore diameter:

80.000 mm

Piston diameter:

-

79.955 mm

Piston installation play:

0.045 mm
