Remove upper part of oil pan – see operation "Oil Pan – Upper Part, Remove and Install".

Disconnect oil intake tube (1) from oil pump and differential.

Detach balancer shaft unit (2) from cylinder block and from crankshaft bearing caps and remove with the balancer piece.

Set engine to "1st Cylinder TDC".

Turn balancer shafts so that both flattened surfaces (arrow) are in line.

Caution

If operations have been performed on crank drive that could impact tooth backlash between balancer shafts and crankshaft (e.g. replacement of crankshaft, crankshaft bearing cover or differential), the tooth backlash between balancer shafts and crankshaft must be adjusted – see operation "Tooth Backlash – Balancer Shaft Unit/Crankshaft, Check and Adjust".

If no operations have been performed on crank drive that could affect tooth backlash between differential (2) and crankshaft (e.g. removal and installation of con-rod bearing or piston with con-rod), the same balancer piece (1) must be re-used when installing.

Connect differential (2) with spacer piece (1) to cylinder block and crankshaft bearing cover – tighten all fastening bolts evenly – tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. + 45°.

Attach oil intake pipe with new seal ring to oil pump – insert fastening bolts with bolt locking compound (red) – tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft. 1) .

Attach oil intake pipe bracket to balancer shaft unit.
