Motronic M 1.5.4    Quick Check F5: ACTUATOR TEST

FUEL TANK VENT

Conditions for Checking

Nominal Value

Affected Terminals: 5, 19

Possible Trouble Codes: 61, 62

This check can be performed in two operating conditions: "ignition ON, engine OFF" or "engine running at idle speed".

The first part of the check should be performed if the engine cannot be started; otherwise the second part ensures accurate diagnosis.

Check 1:

Ignition ON

Engine OFF

Press key F5 in the system main menu, select the desired test using the arrow keys and confirm with YES.

Follow the instructions in the TECH 1 display.

Note:

The controlled canister purge valve is actuated at a frequency of 0.5 Hz.

The check is completed after a maximum of 30 s.

Noise check:

Hold controlled canister

purge valve in hand:

Quiet clicking noise

Check 2:

Ignition OFF

Disconnect plastic line to active carbon canister from controlled canister purge valve (installed between intake valves 1 and 2). The line to the active carbon canister must be closed off to prevent fuel vapour escaping from the active carbon canister.

Engine running at idle speed

Engine throttle valve CLOSED (accelerator pedal in idle position)

Vehicle stationary

Press key F5 in the system main menu, select the desired test using the arrow keys and confirm with YES.

Follow the instructions in the TECH 1 display.

Note:

As the hose at the controlled canister purge valve is only accessible with some difficulty, the check can also be performed as follows:

Do not disconnect hose. Carry out check as described above.

When the controlled canister purge valve is opened via TECH 1, the engine is supplied with additional fuel which can lead to a brief drop in engine speed.

A precondition for this, however, is that enough fuel vapour has been collected in the activated carbon canister.

If the engine speed does not sink during this actuator test, this may be because there is not enough fuel vapour in the activated carbon canister.

If, however, there is too much fuel in the activated carbon canister, the engine speed may sink so low t at the engine stalls.

TECH 1 display shows alternately:

0 %

50 %

Intake noise

ON / OFF at controlled canister purge valve
