Clutch Pedal, Remove and Install (4-Cylinder Petrol Engine)

  Remove

Remove screen wiper arms (1) (2 cover caps, 2 fastening nuts, 2 washers).

Remove fastening bolt (2).

Disconnect wiring harness plug (3) for heated nozzles.

Remove rubber seal (4) and lower screen trim strip (5).

Remove 5 fastening bolts (arrows).

Unclip passenger's side nozzle (8) from passenger's side water deflector.

Detach hose connection for screen washer fluid (7) and remove driver's side water deflector (6).

Caution

Brake fluid escapes. Collect brake fluid and seal off openings.

  Remove

Release retaining clip (3) on clutch master cylinder (1).

Remove pressure line (2) for clutch actuation from clutch master cylinder.

Remove closure plug (1) for driver's side footwell panelling (2).

Remove driver's side footwell panelling.

Remove fastening clip (3) for ventilation duct (4).

Remove ventilation duct.

Note:   For clearer representation, illustration L 5693 shows the pedal support removed.

  Remove

Remove retaining clip (4) and fastening pin (3) for clutch actuation.

Remove fastening nuts (6) for clutch master cylinder (5).

Pull clutch master cylinder out of bulkhead and lay aside.

Remove fastening bolt (1) for pedal support (2).

Remove wiring harness plug for clutch pedal switch (7).

Remove clutch pedal with pedal support.

  Disassemble

Clamp clutch pedal in vice.

Remove retaining clip (1) and fastening nut with washer (2) from pin.

Detach pedal return spring (3) at the pedal support.

Remove pin (2) from pedal shaft and pedal support (1).

Remove pedal support and pedal return spring (3) from pedal shaft.

  Inspect

Check wearing parts for reusability.

  Assemble

Install pedal return spring on pedal shaft – the shorter spring end (1) points away from the pedal.

Coat pin with grease.

Install pedal support on pedal shaft, align the corresponding bores and drive in pin from longer side of pedal shaft outwards.

Attach pedal return spring (3) on the pedal support.

Attach washer and fastening nut (2) - tightening torque 18 Nm .

Attach retaining clip (1).

  Install

Insert pedal support (2) into footwell.

Press clutch pedal down completely and loosely attach upper fastening bolt (1) for pedal support.

Place clutch master cylinder (3) on bulkhead.

Attach pressure line (4) for clutch actuation to clutch master cylinder and secure with new retaining clip (5).

Attach clutch master cylinder (5) with fastening nuts (6) - tightening torque 20 Nm .

Tighten top pedal support (2) fastening bolt (1) - tightening torque 18 Nm .

Attach clutch actuation with fastening pin (3) to clutch pedal and secure with retaining clip (4).

Attach wiring harness plug for clutch pedal switch (7).

Install ventilation duct (2) with fastening clip (1).

Attach footwell panelling (4) with closure plug (3).

Bleed hydraulic clutch actuation – see operation "Hydraulic Clutch Actuation, Bleed".

Attach driver's side water deflector (1)

Connect hose separation point for screen washer fluid (2).

Clip passenger's side nozzle (3) into passenger's side water deflector.

Attach 5 fastening bolts (arrows).

Attach fastening bolt (5).

Connect wiring harness plug (6) for heated nozzles.

Attach rubber seal (7).

Attach lower screen trim strip (8)

Attach windscreen wiper arms (4) (2 washers, 2 fastening nuts, 2 covering caps) - tightening torque 14 Nm .
