Production paint specifications on the vehicle identification plate

The type of vehicle exterior paint is denoted by a letter.

E = Synthetic resin paint (depending on the place of manufacture)

A = Acrylic paint

Y = One-coat paint system

Z = Two-coat paint system (solid 2-coat, metallic, mica effect)

The vehicle exterior colour is indicated by 3-digit colour numbers or a 2-digit colour code with the extension "L" (internal code), depending on the assembly plant.

Aftersales department: The "General Accessories (Colour Survey)" microfiche contains reference lists for 3-digit colour numbers and 2-digit colour codes (e.g. Casablanca White Z474 = Z10L).

The mixing formulae for the colour mixing machines are also stored on the paint manufacturer's microfiches. Formulae for 2-digit colour codes are given under the name "Vauxhall", formulae for 3-digit colour numbers are given under the name "OPEL".
