Hydraulic Modulator with ABS Control Unit, Remove and Install (Vehicles with ABS 5.3/TC)     Remove, Disconnect    Disconnect ground cable from battery.   Remove relay box above hydraulic modulator and lay aside.   Remove brake lines (1) from hydraulic modulator.     Important!    Brake fluid escapes - collect and close off openings.     Remove, Disconnect    Loosen fastening nuts (arrow), release wiring harness plug and disconnect from ABS control unit (cutout).   Push brake lines slightly to the side and take out hydraulic modulator with ABS control unit upwards.

  Install, Connect   

Insert hydraulic modulator with ABS control unit into bracket and screw on - screw on brake lines to hydraulic modulator and master brake cylinder. Note different thread sizes when replacing brake lines.  

  Tighten (Torque)   

Hydraulic modulator to bracket - 8 Nm / 6 lbf. ft.  

Brake lines to hydraulic modulator and master brake cylinder - 16 Nm / 12 lbf. ft.  

  Install, Connect   

Connect wiring harness plug to ABS control unit and lock. Connect relay box to hydraulic modulator.  

  Inspect   

Bleed brake system bleed and check for leaks - see operation "Brake System, Bleed and Check for Leaks".  

ABS-5.3/TC can be diagnosed using TECH 2. The ABS control units are not flash-programmable. The relevant version codes for engine / transmission must be input using TECH 2 after an ABS control unit has been replaced.  

Check function of brakes and ABS during test drive.
