Brake Shoes - Drum Brake, Remove and Install  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Disconnect rear wheel. Remove brake drum - see operation "Brake Drum, Remove and Install".   Detach upper return spring (4) with brake spring pliers. Remove retainer (2). Detach adjusting lever (3) with spring (1). Pull brake shoes slightly apart, remove adjusting unit (5) with thermoclip. Turn both sides of pressure spring plate (6) with KM-346 (7), until springs are released. Remove front wheel brake shoe (8) and detach spring (9). Detach rear brake shoe (10) from parking brake cable (11) and remove.

  Clean   

Clean brake anchor plate with soft metal brush and thinly coat with anti-squeak paste on both sides in area indicated by arrows, where the brake shoes make contact.     Install, Connect    Before installing brake shoes, ensure that the parking brake cable (1) is in the guide (2) on the brake anchor plate.   Insert rear brake shoe in parking brake cable. Attach retaining pin, pressure spring and washer with KM-346. Attach retaining spring (4) and install front brake shoe in guide (3).

  Install, Connect   

Twist adjustment pinion (2) together - lightly coat thread with grease. Insert adjustment unit with thermoclip, ensure correct installation position (arrow). Pull adjustment pinion (2) so far apart that the brake drum can still be slid on perfectly over the brake shoes. Before fitting the adjustment lever, ensure that the belleville spring (1) is fitted - fit new belleville springs when installing new brake shoes.   Install adjuster lever (6) with spring (4). Insert retaining bracket (5) and upper return spring (3) with brake spring pliers.   Install brake drum - see operation "Brake Drum, Remove and Install". Install rear wheel.     Adjust    Adjust drum brake and parking brake - see operations "Drum Brake, Adjust" and "Parking Brake, Adjust (Vehicles with Drum Brake)".     Tighten (Torque)    Wheel to wheel hub - 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.
