Cylinder Heads, Remove and Install (X 25 XE)
 Important! Only remove cylinder heads from cold engine - room temperature.
 Remove, Disconnect Remove exhaust camshafts - see operation "Camshafts, Remove and Install". Remove intake flange - see operation "Intake Flange, Remove and Install". Rear toothed belt cover - see operation "Toothed Belt Cover - Rear, Remove and Install". Remove coolant bridge from cylinder heads remove and lay aside towards rear. Remove coolant pipe - see operation "Coolant Pipe, Remove and Install". Remove oil dipstick guide tube from cylinder block. Detach secondary air metal pipe (cylinder 1-3-5) from exhaust manifold (cylinder 1-3-5) and lay toward rear. Separate secondary air metal pipe (cylinder 2-4-6) from hose connection. Disconnect air duct hose from secondary air combination valve. Detach ground cable from DIS ignition module. Detach covers (x3) above the air deflector panel. Disconnect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensors and remove front exhaust pipe.
Notice: Remove cylinder head for cylinders 1-3-5 first.
Remove, Disconnect Release fastening bolts first 1/4, then 1/2 turn with MKM-916 or MKM-2355 in sequence shown and remove - remove cylinder heads.
 Clean Remove gasket remnants and clean sealing surfaces. |

Notice: If the cylinder head is to be checked or modified, all the outer attaching parts must be removed from the cylinder head.
 Inspect Check cylinder head and cylinder block for plane surface - see operations "Cylinder Head, Check for Plane Surface" and "Cylinder Block, Check for Plane Surface".
 Install, Connect Position new cylinder head gasket (cylinders 2-4-6) - position code "OBEN/TOP" (arrow) towards timing side of engine. Position new cylinder head gasket (cylinders 1-3-5) - position code "OBEN/TOP" (arrow) towards flywheel side of engine. |

Important! Crankshaft must be approx. 60 ° CA BTDC. If incorrectly installed, the intake and exhaust valves may be damaged. Notice: Install cylinder head for cylinders 2-4-6 first.
Install, Connect Attach cylinder head to cylinder block with new fastening bolts in sequence shown - tightening torque 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft. + 90 ° + 90 ° + 90 ° + 15 ° 1) . |

1) re-tightening not required
Install, Connect Attach ground cable to DIS ignition module adapter. Attach secondary air metal pipe (cylinders 2-4-6) to hose connection and air duct hose to secondary air combination valve. Attach secondary air metal pipe (cylinders 1-3-5) with new gaskets to exhaust manifold (cylinders 1-3-5) - insert fastening bolts with assembly paste (white) - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. Install oil dipstick guide tube into cylinder block with new seal rings. Install coolant pipe - see operation "Coolant Pipe, Remove and Install". Connect coolant bridge with new seal rings to cylinder heads - 30 Nm / 22 lbf. ft. Install rear toothed belt cover - see operation "Toothed Belt Cover - Rear, Remove and Install". Install intake flange - see operation "Intake Flange, Remove and Install". Install exhaust camshafts - see operation "Camshafts, Remove and Install". Install front exhaust pipe with new gaskets. Connect wiring harness plugs for oxygen sensors. Connect covers (3 units) above air deflector panel.
