Thermostat, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL)  

Thermostat Housing, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove engine cover from cylinder head cover.   Remove lower radiator hose from radiator - collect escaping coolant.   Remove coolant hoses (1) and (2) from thermostat housing.   Disconnect wiring harness plug (3) from coolant temperature sensor.   Detach thermostat housing (4) from cylinder head.     Clean    Remove gasket remnants and clean sealing surfaces.

  Install, Connect   

When replacing thermostat housing: Transfer coolant temperature sensor with new gasket.  

Install coolant temperature sensor in thermostat housing - tightening torque 14 Nm / 10 lbf. ft.  

Attach thermostat housing to cylinder head with new seal ring - tightening torque 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft.  

Connect wiring harness plug to coolant temperature sensor.  

Attach coolant hoses.  

Install engine cover on cylinder head cover.  

Top up cooling system - see operations "Cooling System, Top up and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks".
