Oil Pan, Remove and Install (X 18 XE1, Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL)  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Disconnect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor (1) and place cable out of way.   For Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL: Slide wiring harness plug of oxygen sensor for catalytic converter check from wiring harness plug bracket and disconnect.   For version with dynamic oil level control: detach wiring harness plug (2) from dynamic oil level control sensor and lay cable to the side.   Remove front exhaust pipe.   Remove oil drain bolt - collect escaping engine oil.   Remove all fastening bolts for oil pan, carefully detach oil pan from cylinder block, oil pump and transmission housing with a wide spatula - ensure that sealing surfaces are not damaged.

  Clean   

Remove gasket residue, clean sealing surfaces and check oil pan for plane surface.  

  Important!   

The contact surfaces must be free of grease and dirt.  

  Install, Connect   

Apply an approx. 2.5 mm (dimension I) bead of silicon sealant (grey) to oil pan and approx. 3.5 mm (dimension II) thick bead of silicon sealant (grey) to oil pan near rear crankshaft bearing cap and install immediately while wet.   Attach oil pan to oil pump, cylinder block and transmission - screw in 2 threaded studs (M6) to secure the oil pan in the cylinder block.     Important!    Installation sequence:     1  Loosely tighten all fastening bolts   2  Tighten fastening bolts on cylinder block and oil pump - tightening torque 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft. 1) ,   3  Tighten fastening bolts on transmission casing - tightening torque 40 Nm / 29.5 lbf. ft.

1)  Re-cut thread before re-use and insert with screw locking compound (red). The installation time including torque check is max. 5 min.  

  Install, Connect   

Attach oil drain bolt to oil pan with new seal ring. For version with hexagonal bolt (metal seal ring) - tightening torque 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft. For version with inner Torx bolt (rubber seal ring) - tightening torque 10 Nm / 7 lbf. ft.  

Install front exhaust pipe with new fastening nuts, new gasket and new sealing cone.  

For version with dynamic oil level control: connect wiring harness plug for dynamic oil level control sensor - note cable routing.  

Connect wiring harness plug for oxygen sensor - ensure correct cable routing.  

For Z 18 XE, Z 18 XEL: Connect wiring harness plug of oxygen sensor for catalytic converter check and slide in wiring harness plug bracket.  

Check engine oil level and top up engine oil quantity to "MAX" mark on oil dipstick. Start engine and allow it to run until oil pressure telltale extinguishes. Re-check engine oil level, if necessary correct.
