Seal Side Cover  

  Remove, Disconnect   

Remove reaction member. Remove front axle body - see operation "Front Axle Body, Remove and Install" in group "E". Detach connection hoses from fluid cooling lines (AF 20/22, "2") or from transmission (AF 13/17) - see operation "Fluid Cooling Lines and Connection Hoses, Replace".   With AF 20/22: remove fluid cooler line (3) from transmission - replace gaskets. Remove cover plate (4) from transmission and side cover.   With all transmissions: lower engine with transmission at Engine Bridge MKM-883-1 as far as required, until attaching parts and side cover are removable.   Remove bracket for engine damping block from side cover (3 bolts, "1"). Vent hose from transmission. Remove side cover from transmission (arrow) - if necessary, use plastic hammer - fluid escapes.   Clean sealing surfaces at cover and transmission.

  Tighten (Torque)   

Side cover with sealing compound to transmission (arrow) - 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft., connect vent hose. Bracket for engine damping block to side cover (3 bolts, "1") - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.   Raise engine with transmission at Engine Bridge MKM-883-1.   AF 20/22: fluid cooler line (3) with new seals to transmission - 22 Nm / 16 lbf. ft. Cover plate (4) to side cover and transmission - 25 Nm / 18 lbf. ft.     Install, Connect    For all transmissions: Connect connection hoses to fluid cooling lines (AF 20/22, "2") and to transmissions (AF 13/17) - see operation "Replace Fluid Cooling Lines and Connection Hoses". Install front axle body - see operation "Front Axle Body, Remove and Install" in group "E". Install reaction member.   Correct transmission fluid level - see operation "Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct".
