Gasket for End Shield, Replace (F 13/F 15/F 17/F 18/F 18+)
 Remove, Disconnect Disconnect ground cable from battery. For all petrol engines: Remove reaction member. For all diesel engines: Remove upper fastening nut for right engine damping block. Remove front left wheel. Partly release wheel housing panelling. Remove cover for shift - see operation "Shift Cover, Disassemble and Reassemble - F 13/15/17/18/18+".. Suspend engine at Engine Bridge MKM-883-1. Only for F 18/18+ transmissions: Rocker arm for gear set brake (1) - release retainer pin with small screwdriver and remove in direction of arrow.
 Important! Do not allow retaining split pin to fall into transmission housing. |

Remove, Disconnect All transmissions: Remove reversing lamp switch - see operation "Reversing Lamp Switch, Replace". Unscrew front left engine damping block bracket from transmission (3 bolts). Remove bolt (arrow) from front axle body. Remove engine damping block bracket with engine damping block. With all petrol engines: remove lower fastening nut for right engine damping block. Lower engine at engine bridge until all bolts from end shield are accessible. Remove end shield cap. |

Remove, Disconnect Unscrew 2 fastening bolts, upper left and lower right, in order to screw in Guide Bolts KM-6155. Remove remaining fastening bolts and remove end shield with main shaft and drive shaft over the guide bolts out of transmission housing. Remove gasket from transmission housing.
Important! Transmission fluid escapes.
 Install, Connect Clean sealing surfaces. Stick new gasket to transmission with anti-friction bearing grease.
Important! Ensure that spacing washer (reverse gear cluster shaft) and magnet are correctly seated. |

 Tighten (Torque)
|
Place end shield over Guide Bolts KM-6155 in transmission housing and tighten fastening bolts (arrows). |
|

|
M7 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft. |
|
M8 20 Nm / 15 lbf. ft. |
 Clean Clean sealing surfaces and remove sealant remnants.
Tighten (Torque) Apply end shield cover with new gasket and tighten.

Tighten (Torque) Front left engine damping block bracket to transmission (3 bolts) - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. Right and left engine damping block to front axle body (arrow) - 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft.
Install, Connect Install reversing lamp switch - see operation "Reversing Lamp Switch, Replace". Only for transmission F 18/F 18+: Insert rocker arm for gear set brake (1) and secure with retainer pin in direction of arrow.
Important! Do not allow retaining split pin to fall into transmission housing. |

Install, Connect Install cover for shift - see operation "Shift Cover, Disassemble and Reassemble - F 13/15/17/18/18+". Tighten wheel housing panelling. Attach left front wheel. For all diesel engines: Install fastening nut for engine damping block. For all petrol engines: Install reaction member. Note installation position.
Tighten (Torque) Wheel to wheel nut - 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft., torque support at reaction member bracket - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. With all diesel engines fixing nut at motor damping block - 45 Nm / 33 lbf. ft. Connect ground lead to battery. Check transmission fluid level and correct if necessary - see operation "Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct".
Remove, Disconnect Remove Engine Bridge MKM-883-1. |
