Transmission, Remove and Install (F 25)
 Remove, Disconnect Remove battery. Remove lower coolant hose from radiator - collect coolant. Remove upper coolant hose. Loosen pressure line with connecting piece (1) from pressure line for central release at clutch housing - to do this, release clamp (2) with screwdriver and remove; then slightly bend clamp (2) and re-insert in connecting piece. Remove torque support - see relevant operation. Carefully release and disconnect wiring harness plug (3) for reversing lamps with small screwdriver. Unclip wiring harness from transmission. |

Remove, Disconnect Loosen bolt for gearshift clamp (1) and slide guide from shift rod underneath. Remove front axle body - see operation "Front Axle Body, Remove and Install" in group "E". Remove front panelling - see operation "Front Panelling, Remove and Install" in group "A". Remove axle shafts or intermediate shaft from transmission. Left side: Carefully drive axle shaft out of transmission using KM-460-2-B (2) and a suitable hammer.
 Important! Fluid escapes - close off opening with plug, suspend axle shaft. |

Remove, Disconnect Right side: carefully drive axle shaft with drift and suitable hammer from intermediate shaft. Unscrew bearing cover from intermediate shaft bearing (2 bolts). Remove intermediate shaft from transmission.

Remove, Disconnect Unscrew front left engine damping block bracket from transmission (3 bolts) (1). Unbolt 4 bolts (arrows) for transmission to oil pan. |

Remove, Disconnect Lower engine at Engine Bridge MKM-883-1. Unscrew 3 upper transmission bolts (arrows).
 Install, Connect Attach Transmission Bracket MKM-886 to transmission housing and hydraulic jack.
Important! Observe manufacturer's instructions for Transmission Holder MKM-886. |

Remove, Disconnect Unscrew 2 front lower bolts (arrows) for transmission to engine. Unscrew 2 rear lower bolts (arrows) for transmission to engine. Press transmission off from engine block and lower.
Important! Do not damage attaching parts when laying transmission down. |

Install, Connect Attach Transmission Bracket MKM-886 to transmission housing.
Important! Observe manufacturer's instructions for Transmission Holder MKM-886.
Install, Connect Raise transmission, align and apply to engine.
 Tighten (Torque)

Install 2 rear lower bolts for transmission to engine and tighten - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. |
|
Install 2 front lower bolts for transmission to engine and tighten - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. |
|
Install 3 upper transmission bolts for transmission to engine and tighten - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. |
|
Fit and tighten 4 bolts for transmission to oil pan - 40 Nm / 30 lbf. ft. |
Install front left engine damping block bracket at transmission (3 bolts) - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft. Evenly lift engine at engine bridge. |

Install, Connect Insert axle shafts or intermediate shaft in transmission. Right side: coat toothing of intermediate shaft with transmission fluid. Insert intermediate shaft in transmission.
Tighten (Torque) Install intermediate shaft bearing cover (2 bolts) and tighten - 18 Nm / 13 lbf. ft.
Install, Connect Coat toothing of axle shaft with transmission fluid. Drive axle shaft onto intermediate shaft with soft metal drift and suitable mallet. |

Install, Connect Left side: Install new retaining ring (1) on axle shaft. Coat toothing of axle shaft with transmission fluid. Insert axle shaft in transmission. Drive in axle shaft using drift on bead of friction weld seam (2) until it engages. Slide shift rod onto shift guide.
Important! Do not tighten fastening bolt for clamp (3) yet. |

Install, Connect Fasten wiring harness for reversing lamps to transmission (clips). Connect wiring harness plug for reversing lamps switch. Install front axle body - see operation "Front Axle Body, Remove and Install" in group "E". Install front panelling - see operation "Front Panelling, Remove and Install" in group "A". Install reaction member. Insert pressure line with connection piece into central release pressure line on clutch housing - clamp engages audibly. Attach upper and lower coolant hose to radiator. Top up cooling system - see operations "Cooling System, Top Up and Bleed" and "Cooling System, Check for Leaks" in group "J".
Tighten (Torque) Reaction member at reaction member bracket - 60 Nm / 44 lbf. ft.
 Inspect Check transmission fluid level and correct if necessary - see operation "Transmission Fluid Level, Check and Correct".
 Adjust Adjust transmission shift linkage - see operation "Transmission Shift Linkage, Adjust (F 13, F 15, F 17, F 18, F 18+, F 25, F 35)". Bleed hydraulic clutch actuation - see operation "Hydraulic Clutch Actuation, Bleed".
