Important Information regarding Operations on Manual Transmission

Temperature check using thermocolour pencils or suitable gauge is required for all operations requiring heating of transmission parts.

Transmission, Dismantle:

Whenever working on the manual transmission ensure utmost cleanliness of components and tools. Transmission malfunctioning is frequently caused by dirt and foreign objects.

To clean transmission parts, use equipment corresponding to the "Opel/Vauxhall Workshop Equipment" catalogue.

Clean all removed components after disassembly and check for wear and damage. If defective seal rings are discovered on disassembly, the grooves and seating surfaces must be checked for foreign objects, burring or damage.

If metal shavings are found while draining fluid, completely dismantle and clean transmission.

When placing attaching parts in vice, always use soft protective jaws.

If incorrect values are found when starting torques are measured, dismantle the relevant attaching part and overhaul mount.

Important Information regarding Operations on Manual Transmission (Continued)

Transmission, Dismantle (Continued):

The retaining pins of the Transmission Holder KM-552 (F 13/15/17/18/18+) and KM-622-A (F 23/25) are designed to be rotatable and can be stopped after every quarter-turn so that a favourable installation position can be attained. Exception: When releasing housing bolts and separating housing parts, always keep transmission fixed horizontally (auxiliary housing points upwards), as assemblies are free and could fall out.

Transmission, Assemble:

Always renew gaskets and securing elements, do not overstretch retaining rings.

When installing, coat the components (gears, shafts, etc.) and bolts with transmission fluid. Insert bearings and gaskets with assembly grease, cement to the relevant positions if necessary.

Install housing parts with sealing compound.
