Fluid Pressure - Power Steering Pump, Check (Diesel Engines) > < Power Steering Hydraulic Lines, Remove and Install (X 20 DTL)

 

Hydraulic System, Top Up and Bleed  

Notice: 

The hydraulic system is topped up with Special Fluid Dexron ® II.  

Use dipstick in fluid reservoir screw-on cover to check fluid level.  

Object Number: 616196  Size: DEFAULT  Inspect   

Fluid is initially filled up to "MAX" mark (1) with engine off.  

Start engine and a second mechanic should immediately top up fluid to lower "MIN" mark (2) and allow engine to run.  

Object Number: 616201  Size: DEFAULT  Important!   

Power steering pump must not be allowed to run dry.

Object Number: 616196  Size: DEFAULT  Inspect   

With engine running turn steering wheel slowly left and right 2 to 3 times approx. 45 ° and then twice from limit stop to limit stop. Re-check fluid level in fluid reservoir, and correct if necessary.

Stop engine and check fluid level.  

Fluid level at approx. 20 ° C/68 ° F: between "MIN" (2) and "MAX" (1) marks.  

Object Number: 616201  Size: DEFAULT  Important!   

It is not permitted to re-use drained fluid.  

Fluid quality: Special Fluid Dexron ® II - see also "Technical Data".
