Servicing 34 PICT carburettor
Cold idling valve

(carburettor 055 129 015 L/Q/R only)

The bore of the cold idling valve changes as a function of coolant temperature.

V22-0086

→ At coolant temperature below approx.14 °C/12 °C vacuum passes via the thermopneumatic valve -2- to the cold idling valve -1-. This increases the nozzle this reduce the nozzle bore.
The valve -2- closes above approx. 20 °C/50 °C.
This reduces the nozzle bore.

Note:

The off-centre connection at the thermopneumatic valve -2- must be connected to the cold idling valve.

Checking cold idle valve

  • ● Minimum engine oil temperature 60 °C.
  • ‒ Connect up CO tester V.A.G1363 A as per the opening instructions.
  • ‒ Start engine and let it idle.

V22-1695
  • ‒ → Connect vacuum connection of cold idle valve to intake manifold -arrow-.
  • ‒ The CO content must increase to in excess of 6% by volume. If applicable, renew the cold idle valve.

Removing and installing cold idle valve

V22-0225
  • ‒ → Remove and installing with 2053.

Checking thermopneumatic valve

  • ‒ Blow through valve.

Engine code FH:

Below + 14 °C - open

above + 20 °C - closed

Engine code FN:

Below + 12 °C - open

above + 50 °C - closed

  • ‒ Renew valve if necessary.
