Checking and adjustment conditions

  • ● Minimum engine oil temperature 60 °C.
  • ● Crankcase breather hose pulled off at cylinder head cover and sealed on air cleaner end.
  • ● Radiator fan must not be in operation.
  • ● Electrical loads switched off.
  • ● Ignition timing point OK; checking =>page 28-54 .
  • ● Choke valve fully open.
  • ● No leaks in exhaust system.

Vehicles with automatic gearbox

  • ● Throttle cable setting OK.

Checking and adjusting idling speed and CO content

V25-1522
  • ‒ → Connect up ignition tester V.A.G 1367 with clip-on trigger V.A.G 1367/8 or ignition tester V.A.G.1767.
  • ‒ Connect up CO tester V.A.G 1363 A to tail-pipe.
  • ‒ Start engine and let it idle.
  • ‒ Check idling speed and CO content.

If necessary, set idling speed and CO content to specified valves by alternately turning adjusting screws.

  • ‒ → Adjust idling speed with screw -1-.
  • ‒ Check CO content in exhaust gas.
  • ‒ Make corrections at CO adjusting screw -2-.
  • ‒ Correct idling speed if necessary after adjustment.
  • ‒ Provide CO adjusting screw with new antitamper cap.

Note:

The crankcase breather hose must be reconnected after the CO content has been adjusted.

If the CO level rises afterwards, This does not mean that the adjustment is incorrect, but is the enrichment from the oil dilution in the crankcase resulting from frequent start/stop operation.

Along fast drive will reduce the amount of fuel in the oil and CO content will return to the normal lever. AT short notice this can also be done by way of an oil change.
