Checking and adjusting dwell angle ignition timing

Checking and adjustment conditions

  • ● Engine oil temperature min. 60 °C.
  • ● Vacuum hoses connected.

Checking:

  • ‒ With ignition switched off dwell angle, ignition timing and engine speed tester (e.g. V.A.G 1367).
  • ‒ If necessary use an aux. terminal to connect to terminal 1 of the ignition coil.
  • ‒ Check and necessary adjust dwell angle.
    • ‒ Wear limit: 42...58° (47...64%)
    • ‒ Adjusting figure: 47 ± 3° (53 ± 3%)
  • ‒ Star engine and run at idling speed.
    • ‒ Idling speed: 900...1000 rpm
  • ‒ Check ignition timing.

With TDC sender

The ignition firing point is indicated directly on the tester.
     Test reading: 0 ± 2° (4...8 after TDC)*)

*)when using premium unleaded (RON 95)

→ With stroboscope:

  • ‒ Direct at ignition timing notch.
  • ‒ If necessary, adjust ignition timing by tuning the distributor.
         Setting figure: 0 ± 1° (6 ± 1° after TDC)*)

*)when using premium unleaded (RON 95)

  • ‒ Check and necessary adjust idling setting =>page 25-31 .
