Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

Note:

The vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 can be used instead of fault reader V.A.G 1551, however a print-out is then not possible.

Work sequence

  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 and select engine electronics control unit (address word 01); selection is carried out with engine idling.

Only when engine does not start:

  • ‒ Switch on ignition.
  • ‒ Switch on printer with the Print Key
    (Warning lamp in key lights up)
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Operate fault reader taking into account the information on the display:
  • ‒ Input 02 for "Interrogate full memory" function and confirm with Q.
 
→ The number of faults stored or "No fault recognised!" will be shown on the display.
X Faults reconised!

Note

If something different is indicated on the display:

=> Fault reader operating instructions

If no fault is stored

  • ‒ Press ⇒Key

If one or more faults are stored:

The faults stored will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

 
→ Then the display will show:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Locate and eliminate faults printed out as per fault table => Page 01-10 .
  • ‒ Input 05 for "Erase fault memory" function and confirm with Q.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     ⇒
Fault memory is erased

Note:

If the ignition is switched off between interrogating fault memory and erasing fault memory, the fault memory will not be erased.

  • ‒ Press ⇒Key
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
  • ‒ Input 06 for "End output" function and confirm with Q.

Note:

If a fault is present which is not recognised by the self diagnosis, carry out further fault finding using the fault table in "Engine fault finding" binder.
