Connecting fault reader V.A.G 1551 and selecting engine electronics control unit

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

Note:

The vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 can be used instead of the fault reader V.A.G 1551, however a print-out is then not possible.

Test conditions

  • ● Fuse 21 OK.
  • ● Battery voltage at least 11 V
  • ● Earth connections on engine and gearbox OK.
    (Earth connection engine , Item 11 ).

Work sequence

 
U02-0002
  • ‒ → Remove front ashtray in center console.
  • ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 with cable V.A.G 1551/3
  • ‒ Depending upon desired function:
    Switch on ignition
    or
    Start engine , Table "Selectable functions".

Note:

If display does not indicate as per work sequence:

=> Fault reader operating instructions

  • ◆ If "faults in data transfer!" are indicated caused by input faults, pull wire off fault reader, reconnect and again perform work step.
  • ‒ Operate fault reader taking into account the information on the display.
  • ‒ Input 1 for "Rapid data transfer".
  • ‒ Input 01 for address word "Engine electronics" and confirm with Q.
 
→ The fault reader V.A.G 1551 display will show the control unit identification eg:
17S 906 258 C     MP9.0     26ZA0000 ⇒
     WSC XXXXX
  • ◆ 17S 906 258 C = Part No. of the control unit (for the latest control unit version see parts catalogue)
  • ◆ MP 9.0 = System designation and version
  • ◆ 26ZA0000 = Program level number
  • ◆ WSC = Workshop code
  • ‒ Press ⇒Key.
 
→ Indicated on display:
Rapid data transfer     HELP
Select function XX
