Note:

Welding and straightening operations on axle beam and stub axles are not permitted.

  • Inner wheel bearing
    • ◆ Drive out outer race with copper drift. Press in =>Fig.3
  • Lock washer
    • ◆ Double waved spring washer
  • 60 Nm
  • Hub cap
    • ◆ Pull of => Fig. 1
    • ◆ Drive on with rubber hammer
  • Locking ring
  • Nut
    • ◆ Lock with locking ring and cotter pin after adjusting the wheel bearing => Fig. 5

  • Outer wheel bearing
    • ◆ Drive out the outer race with copper drift. Press in =>Fig. 2
  • Brake drums
    • ◆ Clean carefully, check for wear, damage, dimensions, damage to wheel bolt threads and braking surfaces. Fill hub up with multi-purpose grease.
  • Axle beam
    • ◆ Contact surfaces and threaded holes free of paint and dirt.
    • ◆ Check for distortion
  • Stub axle
    • ◆ Remove to check for bending =>Fig. 4
  • Brake backplate complete
    • ◆ When removing and installing detach/attach brake cable
  • Seal
    • ◆ Drive in with rubber hammer, tapping alternate sides

Measure at least 3 points on the circumference as shown. The difference between the readings must not exceed 0.25 mm, otherwise the stub axle must be renewed.

→ Fig.5    Adjusting wheel bearing

  • ‒ The wheel bearing clearance is correctly adjusted when the thrust washer can be moved slightly under finger pressure - see illustration - (not by turning or levering).
  • ‒ Before adjusting,tighten nut while turning wheel to prevent bearings from jamming.
  • ‒ Then install locking ring and secure with a new cotter pin.
