The projection -arrow- points forwards.
  N42-10066
–  To facilitate centring in rear axle, pre-assemble bonded rubber bush using special tools.
1 - Thrust piece -3111/4-
2 - Bonded rubber bush
3 - Thrust piece -3111/2-
4 - Thrust bolt -VAS 6295/4-
  N42-10100
–  Now position bonded rubber bush -1- on rear axle using thrust piece -3111/2--2- and thrust bolt -VAS 6295/4--3-.
  N42-10063
–  Fit hydraulic cylinder -VAS 6178- with pressure plate -3111/1- and press in bonded rubber bush.
The cutters of the pressure plate -3111/1--1- must point towards the axle and the eye of the bonded rubber bush must be free -arrows-.
1 - Pressure plate -3111/1-
2 - Bonded rubber bush
3 - Thrust piece -3111/2-
4 - Thrust bolt -VAS 6295/4-
5 - Thrust bolt -VAS 6180/6-
6 - Pull rods -VAS 6295/3-
7 - Cylinder mounting -VAS 6295/1-
8 - Hydraulic press -VAS 6178-
  N42-10064
–  Press bonded rubber bush -1- in until bush projects by dimension -a- = 8 mm ± 1 mm.
–  Raise rear axle with engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-, remove tensioning straps -T10038- and securing bolts.
–  Insert rear axle into mounting bracket and secure using bolts and new nuts.
–  Insert rear axle securing bolts into mounting bracket again and secure.
Securing vehicle to lifting platform
  Caution
If the vehicle is not strapped down, there is a danger that the vehicle will slip off the lifting platform!
  N42-10065
The mounting bracket may only be bolted to the rear axle when dimension -a- between the centre of wheel hub and lower edge of wheel housing, measured before starting the work, has been attained.
Otherwise the bonded rubber bush will be strained, resulting in a reduced service life.
–  Turn wheel hub until a wheel bolt hole is uppermost.
–  Attach support -T10149- with a wheel bolt.
–  Raise wheel bearing housing, using engine and gearbox jack, until dimension -a- is attained.
  WARNING
t  Do not raise or lower vehicle when engine and gearbox jack is under the vehicle.
t  Do not leave the engine and gearbox jack under the vehicle longer than required.
–  Bolt mounting bracket to rear axle with specified torque.
Further installation in reverse order.
–  Bleed brake system → Chapter or → Chapter.
