Activating front passenger airbag
  Note
Before the front passenger airbag can be activated using the fault reader, the resistance connector and the earth wire must be removed from the wiring harness for the front passenger airbag.
To do this, it is necessary to remove the front passenger airbag. → General body repairs; Rep. Gr.69
  Note
Obtain radio unit code before disconnecting battery.
  WARNING
Disconnect battery earth strap before working on electrical system.
  WARNING
Before touching the airbag systems, the mechanic must electrostatically discharge him/herself. This can be done by touching a suitable metal part, for example, a water pipe, a heater pipe or a metal frame.
   
–  Remove earth wire -2- from front passenger airbag.
  Note
First unplug the connector -1- and then unscrew the ring terminal -3-.
–  Remove cable ties and free airbag wiring harness.

–  Separate connector housing -1- from connector -2-.
–  Install airbag unit, front passenger side.

–  Remove sign -1- from diagnostic connector (sign will not be installed again).
–  Connect battery earth strap.
  Note
After connecting battery, check vehicle equipment (radio, clock, electric windows) as per workshop manual and/or owner's manual.
–  Connect fault reader → Chapter.
–  Switch on ignition.
–  Press key -1- for “rapid data transfer” mode.

–  Press keys -1- and -5- (the address word of the vehicle system to be tested “Airbag” is entered with 15).

The airbag warning lamp -K75- lights up and must go out after approx. 4 seconds.

–  Remove label (Passenger airbag disabled) from passenger door.
After deactivating or activating the passenger side airbag, complete the registration card (see illustrated catalogue in Technical Service Handbook) and send it to the relevant distribution centre or importer for registration. Enter confirmation of the conversion in the service documents.
In Germany, the deactivation or reactivation of the system must be checked by an authorised test centre, for example the TÜV, and confirmed with an entry in the vehicle documents.
