Deactivating front passenger airbag
Deactivating front passenger airbag
If a customer wishes to transport a child in a rear-facing child restraint system, the connector in the supply line to the front passenger airbag module must be separated and a vehicle-specific resistance connector must be installed in addition to deactivation of the software.
Repair set -1H0 998 521 B- is required for the modification.
  Note
Obtain radio unit code before disconnecting battery.
  WARNING
Disconnect battery earth strap before working on electrical system.
  WARNING
Before touching the airbag systems, the mechanic must electrostatically discharge him/herself. This can be done by touching a suitable metal part, for example, a water pipe, a heater pipe or a metal frame.
To do this, it is necessary to remove the front passenger airbag. → General body repairs; Rep. Gr.69

After deactivating or activating the passenger side airbag, complete the registration card (see illustrated catalogue in Technical Service Handbook) and send it to the relevant distribution centre or importer for registration. Enter confirmation of the conversion in the service documents.
In Germany, the deactivation or reactivation of the system must be checked by an authorised test centre, for example the TÜV, and confirmed with an entry in the vehicle documents.
