Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required

  • ◆ Vernier gauge
  • ◆ Straight edge

Loosening and tightening drive plate

 
V13-1285
  • ‒ → Secure counter-hold tool VW 558 behind the drive plate with a hexagon bolt M8x20.
  • ‒ If the vibration damper is still secured to crankshaft, lock crankshaft with counter-hold 3273.

Installing drive plate

  • ‒ Fit drive plate on crankshaft.
  • ‒ Insert at least 3 old securing bolts and tighten to
         30 Nm.

  • ‒ → Check dimension -a- through the three holes for securing the torque converter using a straight edge and depth gauge and calculate average.
  • ‒ Compare average with specification (measured distance + thickness of straight edge).
         Specification: 15.7 ... 16.5 mm

If the specification is not attained:

  • ‒ → Remove drive plate again and fit appropriate shim -1-.

If the specification is attained:

  • ‒ Fit drive plate using new securing bolts and tighten to 60 Nm then turn
         1/4 turn (90°)
    further.
