Actuator controlled, load-dependent injection timing

Engine code AAZ

V23-0241

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

  • ◆ Diode test lamp V.A.G 1527

→ The actuator controlled load-dependent injection timing is integrated into the injection pump. It has the task of adjusting the injection timing according to the load on the engine. This adaption achieves a softer running engine.
Above approx. 2800/rpm the load-dependent injection timing is cut-off by actuator (N165) -1-, which is controlled by the automatic glow period control unit (J179).

Checking cut-off:

  • ‒ Pull connector off actuator.
  • ‒ Connect diode test lamp V.A.G 1527 to connector.
  • ‒ Start engine and raise engine speed to approx. 3000/rpm:
the test lamp must light up.
  • ‒ Test lamp does not light up: locate fault according to current flow diagram, or renew automatic glow period control unit (J179).

Checking actuator

  • ‒ Remove actuator, connect to earth and voltage supply:
         Actuator must operate.
