Notes:

• ◆ Only perform the basic setting when the throttle valve control part (J338), the Motronic control unit (J220) or the engine has been replaced.
• ◆ The basic setting matches the Motronic control unit to the throttle valve control part with the ignition switched on.
• ◆ If the basic setting is interrupted by the control unit, it can be, that the throttle valve is not on the mechanical idling stop due to soiling e.g. coking or an incorrectly adjusted accelerator cable. In this case the fault "Basic setting not performed" will be stored in fault memory. Thoroughly clean the soiled area in throttle valve control part. The next time the ignition is switched on the basic setting will be automatically performed again.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items

• ◆ Fault reader V.A.G 1551 or vehicle system tester V.A.G 1552 with cable V.A.G 1551/3

Test conditions

• ● No faults stored in fault memory
  , interrogating fault memory

Test sequence

• ‒ Connect fault reader V.A.G 1551 (V.A.G 1552) and select engine electronics control unit with the "Address word" 01. When doing this the ignition must be switched on but the engine not running.

• ‒ Press keys 0 and 4 for the "Introduction of basic setting" function and confirm entry with Q key.

• ‒ Press keys 0, 9 and 8 for the "Display group number 98" and confirm entry with Q key.

Note:

After confirming the display group number 98 the throttle valve positioner will be moved to the min., max. and then into the start position. The control unit stores the appropriate throttle valve of angle in the permanent memory. The throttle valve will then remain in the start position.

• ‒ Check the specifications (display zones1...4):

• ‒ Terminate engine basic setting at earliest after 30 seconds by pressing the⇒ key.
• ‒ Press keys 0 and 6 for the "End data transfer" function and confirm input with the Q key.
