Self-diagnosis of airbag system
Test box VAS 5056

It is possible to check the individual components of the airbag system with test box VAS 5056 and to check which components are actually defective.

Note:

  • ◆ Observe safety measures when working on airbag.

Connecting test box to driver's airbag components

Driver's airbag and steering column switch lower trim removed.

  • ‒ → Connect igniter connector to inert igniter -1- and separate wiring harness to coil connector with slip ring. Connect connector -3- from VAS 5056/2 (or VAS 5056/3 for vehicles with ESP) with airbag wiring harness.
  •      1 -     Igniter connector on inert igniter
  •      2 -     Button
  •      3 -     Coil connector with slip ring connector

Instead of connecting the test box to the connector in the steering wheel it is possible using the adapter cables to connect the test box to the coil connector with slip ring.

Connecting test box to front passenger's airbag components

  • ‒ Remove glove box -3 -

=> General body repairs, interior; Repair group 68; Stowage compartments, covers and trims; Removing glove box

  • ‒ Separate wiring harness to airbag unit and connect yellow 2-pin connector -2- from VAS 5056/1 with wiring harness/passenger's airbag.
  • Button
  • Wiring harness/passenger's airbag connector
  • Glove box
  • Connector (not relevant)
  • Connector (not relevant)
