Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-
t  Puller -T10112-
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331- (5...50 Nm)
t  Compression tester -V.A.G 1763-

Test prerequisites
l  Engine oil temperature must be at least 30°.
l  Voltage supply OK.
Procedure
–  Remove engine cover.
   
–  Pull 6-pin connector off ignition coils with output stage -arrow-.
  N28-10027
–  Remove fuse no. 32 from fuse holder.
  Note
Fuse is removed to interrupt power supply to injectors.
–  Pull connectors off outer injectors.
–  Pull off spark plug connector using puller -T10112-.
–  Unscrew spark plugs using spark plug socket and extension -3122 B-.
–  Check compression using compression tester -V.A.G 1763- and adapter -V.A.G 1763/6-.
  Note
Using compression tester → operating instructions.
–  Have a second mechanic operate the starter.
–  Operate starter until tester shows no further pressure increase.
Compression pressures:
New: 10...13 bar pressure. Wear limit: 7.5 bar.
Permitted difference between all cylinders: 3 bar
–  After completing work, erase fault memory of engine control unit because removing the fuse caused a fault to be saved → Chapter.
