Removing and installing battery, battery in luggage compartment > < Vehicles with 4-cyl. or 5-cyl. petrol engine

Special tools and workshop equipment required
   
t  Torque wrench -V.A.G 1331-
Removing:
–  Disconnect battery → Chapter.
  W00-0427
–  Pull panel of battery box out upwards in direction of arrow.
  N27-10006
–  Unscrew securing bolt -1- and remove securing bracket -2-.
  N27-10007
–  Fold up handles -arrows- upwards and remove battery.
Installing:
  Caution
A loosely fitted battery creates the following dangers:
t  Shortened service life due to damage from vibration (danger of explosion)
t  Damage to the grid plates of the battery
t  Damage to battery housing by securing bracket (possibility of acid leaking, with high consequential costs)
t  Poor crash safety.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order. When installing observe the following:
–  Tighten threaded connections to specified torques → Chapter.
–  After installing, check that battery is seated securely.
–  Reconnect battery → Chapter.
  Caution
When batteries are disconnected and reconnected, the procedure described in the workshop manual must be strictly observed → Chapter.
