t  Every time after changing pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary, so that brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
t  After work for which the brake system had to be opened, bleed the brake system with brake charge and bleed system -VAS 5234- or extraction unit -V.A.G 1869/4-.
t  Before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose, fit brake pedal depressor -V.A.G 1869/2- (when doing this, release pressure in system).
1 - ABS speed sensor
q   Before inserting sensor, clean inner surface of hole and coat with high-temperature paste -G 052 112 A3-.
2 - Bolt
q   8 Nm
3 - Bolt
q   90 Nm and turn 90° further
q   Always renew after removing.
4 - Wheel bearing housing
5 - Splash plate
6 - Bolt
q   12 Nm
q   M6x12.
7 - Wheel hub with wheel bearing
q   Different for front- and four-wheel drive.
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue „ETKA“
q   → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.42
8 - Bolt
q   Different for front- and four-wheel drive.
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue „ETKA“
q   → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.42
9 - Dust cap
q   Front-wheel drive only
10 - Brake disc
q   Ø 272 mm
q   Thickness: 10 mm
q   Wear limit: 8 mm.
q   When worn, renew on both sides of axle.
q   Unscrew brake caliper prior to removing.
q   Checking: Maintenance Booklet → Booklet
q   Allocation → Electronic parts catalogue „ETKA“
q   Never remove brake discs from wheel hub by force. If necessary use penetrating fluid, because otherwise brake discs can be damaged.
11 - Bolt
q   4 Nm
q   For locating brake disc.
12 - Brake pads
q   Thickness: 12 mm not including backplate.
q   Wear limit: 2 mm not including backplate.
q   Checking thickness: Maintenance Booklet → Booklet.
q   Always replace on both sides
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
13 - Backplate with different guide pins and protective caps
q   Supplied as genuine part, assembled with sufficient grease on guide pins.
q   If protective caps or guide pins are damaged, install repair kit. Use lubricant sachet supplied to lubricate guide pins.
14 - Pad retainer
q   Always renew when changing pads.
15 - Pad retainer
q   Always renew when changing pads.
16 - Brake caliper
q   Do not disconnect brake hose when changing pads.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
q   Repairing → Chapter.
q   Adjust handbrake cable first after repairing or renewing.
q   Adjusting handbrake → Chapter.
17 - Bolt
q   35 Nm
q   Self-locking
q   Always renew after removing.
18 - Handbrake cable
q   Both locking lugs must be engaged on brake caliper bracket.
q   Adjusting handbrake → Chapter.
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
19 - Brake hose
q   With banjo bolt and seals
q   35 Nm
