Draining coolant
  WARNING
Hot steam/hot coolant can escape - risk of scalding.
The cooling system is under pressure when the engine is hot.
Cover filler cap on expansion tank with a cloth and open carefully to dissipate pressure.
   
–  Open filler cap -1- on coolant expansion tank.
Remove noise insulation or skid plate → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50.
–  Place drip tray for workshop crane -VAS 6208- beneath engine.
Golf, Golf Plus, Passat, Touran

–  Remove air hose, loosen hose clips -1- and -2- for this.
  Note
To prevent ingress of coolant, seal union on turbocharger using a clean plug from engine sealing plug set -VAS 6122-
Golf, Golf Plus, Touran, Passat

–  Pull off coolant hose -arrow- from coolant circulation pump 2 -V178-.

–  Disconnect lower coolant hose from radiator, lift retaining clip -arrow- when doing this, and drain off coolant.
Polo
  A19-0482
–  Pull off coolant hoses -2- from coolant circulation pump 2 -V178-.
  N19-10330
–  Disconnect lower coolant hose from radiator, loosen hose clamp -arrow- to do so and then drain off coolant.
–  Open clamp -arrow- for this.
  N19-10340
–  Disconnect lower coolant hose on right from radiator, loosen hose clamp -arrow- to do so and then drain off coolant.
–  Disconnect coolant hose from oil filter housing, loosen hose clamp -arrow- to do so and then drain off remaining coolant.
Continuation for all vehicles

–  To drain coolant from engine, also remove coolant hose from engine oil cooler -arrow-.

Observe environmental regulations for disposal.
