Removing toothed belt –  Remove engine cover. –  Remove poly V-belt and remove locking pin -T10060 A-. –  Pull upper hose off coolant expansion tank. –  Loosen coolant expansion tank and lay it to side. –  Remove toothed belt guard upper part.

Golf 2004 ► –  Fit support bracket -10 - 222 A- with adapter -10 - 222 A /8- as shown and take up weight of engine in installation position.

Golf 2009 ► –  Fit engine support bracket -10-222A- with adapter -10 - 222 A /13- and take up weight of engine in installation position. Observe the following points: l  Plate -A- may not be dented. l  Spindle -arrows- points to rear.

Golf Plus ► –  Insert mud wing compensation plate -T10311- between the mud wing and the mounting flange underneath on both sides of vehicle. 1 -  R - right side of vehicle 2 -  Arrow - points in direction of travel 3 -  Bore - for pulling mud wing compensation plate out

–  Fit support bracket -10 - 222 A- with adapter -10 - 222 A /8- as shown and take up weight of engine in installation position. All models: –  Remove noise insulation → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. Gr.50.

–  Remove belt pulley with vibration damper. –  Remove centre and lower parts of toothed belt guard.

–  Remove lower bolt -1- from engine bracket.

–  Remove securing bolts from assembly mounting/engine bracket -arrows- and remove complete assembly mounting.   Caution When raising engine using support bracket -10-222A-, ensure that no components or hoses are damaged, stretched or torn off.

–  Raise engine with support bracket -10-222A- until both upper bolts -2 and 3- of engine bracket can be loosened and removed. –  Remove engine bracket upwards.

–  Set camshaft pulley to “TDC” No. 1 cylinder mark by turning crankshaft. The marking on camshaft toothed belt pulley must align with arrow on toothed belt guard. –  Mark direction of rotation of toothed belt. –  Loosen tensioning roller and remove toothed belt. –  Turn crankshaft back slightly.
