Camshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
Distributor With Camshaft Position Sensor
The Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor is located in the distributor housing.
The Camshaft Position Sensor signal is used to recognize ignition point for cylinder number one (1) for starting the engine. The signal is also used for
cylinder selective knock control and to determine fuel injection timing and sequence.
The engine cannot be started if the Hall signal is not received by the Motronic control module. If the signal fails during engine operation, no ignition
knock control will be available.
