Remove bolts

Remove cover

.
–
Unscrew bolt
-1-
from universial joint.
–
Pull universal joint off steering box.
–
Clamp hose from reservoir with hose clamp -3094-
Vehicles with 1.4 l engine or 2.3 l V5 engine
–
Clamp off return line with hose clamp 3094.
Continuation for all vehicles
–
Clamp hose on vane pump with hose clamp -3094-.
–
Remove noise insulation tray.
–
Place drip tray beneath.
–
Press track rod off steering arm.
A -
Track rod puller (commercial type) e.g. Kukko -128/2-
–
Disconnect hoses from steering box and seal with plastic bag and adhesive tape.
–
Seal power steering box threaded holes with plastic sealing plugs

and

–
Unscrew hexagon bolts
-1-
and
-2-
.
Vehicles with TDI engine
–
Unbolt bracket for front exhaust pipe from subframe
-arrows-
and detach.
Continuation for all vehicles
–
Support subframe using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.
–
Loosen hexagon bolts
-1-
.
–
Unscrew hexagon bolts
-2-
and
-3-
.
–
Lower subframe using engine and gearbox jack -V.A.G 1383 A-.
–
Remove bolts
-1-
for power steering box.
–
Take power steering box out to the right.
