Repairing wheel bearing, vehicles with front-wheel drive - disc brakes
  Note
t  Careful sealing, absolute cleanliness and precise adjustment are prerequisites for long wheel bearing service life. Therefore note the following points:
t  Install oil seal and grease cap as shown.
t  Only install clean bearings.
t  Adjust wheel bearing play carefully.
1 - Axle beam
2 - Hexagon socket head bolt, 10 Nm
3 - Speed sensor
q   Only vehicles with ABS.
q   Before inserting, clean and coat circumference with lubricating paste -G 000 650-.
4 - Bracket for brake hose
5 - Hexagon socket head bolt, 65 Nm
6 - Self-locking hexagon bolt, 35 Nm
q   Renew.
7 - Guide pin
8 - Protective cap
9 - Brake pad retaining spring
q   Always renew when changing pads.
10 - Cover ring
q   Driving in → Fig..
11 - Brake carrier
12 - Brake pads
q   Removing and installing → Chapter.
13 - Brake caliper
q   → Chapter
14 - Outer wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
15 - Hexagon nut
q   Adjusting wheel bearing play → Fig..
16 - Split pin
q   Renew.
17 - Grease cap
q   Pressing off → Fig. and → Fig..
q   Driving in → Fig..
18 - Locking ring
19 - Thrust plate
20 - Wheel bolt, 110 Nm
21 - Brake disc
q   Fill hub with multi-purpose grease before installing.
22 - Inner wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
23 - Seal
q   Fill between sealing lips with grease -G 052 128 A1-.
q   Driving in → Fig..
24 - Speed sensor rotor
q   Only vehicles with ABS.
25 - Hexagon bolt, 60 Nm
26 - Dished spring
q   Larger contact surface (concave side) faces towards cover plate.
27 - Cover plate
28 - Stub axle
q   Must not be straightened. Use only stub axle with 6 securing holes.
29 - Handbrake cable
q   Adjust handbrake → Chapter.
30 - Spring clip

   
Pressing off grease cap
–  Loosen grease cap from seat by tapping lightly on the claw.

  Note
t  Always renew damaged (dented) grease caps.
t  Damaged (dented) grease caps allow ingress of moisture. For this reason it is important to use the tool shown in the illustration.

Adjusting wheel bearing play
  Note
Using a screwdriver it must be possible to move the thrust washer by finger pressure (without leverage).
–  Secure with locking ring and new split pin.
