Repairing wheel bearing, vehicles with front-wheel drive - drum brakes
  Note
t  Careful sealing, absolute cleanliness and precise adjustment are prerequisites for long wheel bearing service life. Therefore note the following points:
t  Install oil seal and grease cap as shown.
t  Only reinstall clean bearings, do not wash bearings.
t  Adjust wheel bearing play carefully.
1 - Stub axle
q   Must not be straightened.
2 - Cover ring for vehicles without ABS
q   Driving in → Fig..
3 - Brake carrier
q   Bolt together with stub axle onto rear axle.
4 - Dished spring
q   Larger contact surface (concave side) to brake backplate.
5 - Hexagon bolt, 60 Nm
6 - Stub axle for vehicles with ABS
q   Must not be straightened.
7 - Cover ring for vehicles with ABS
q   Driving in → Fig..
8 - Seal
q   Fill between sealing lips with grease -G 052 128 A1-.
q   Driving in → Fig..
9 - Inner wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
10 - Rotor
q   Only vehicles with ABS.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
11 - Split pin
q   Renew.
12 - Brake drum
q   Before removing release brake shoe adjustment through wheel bolt hole → Fig..
q   Stop outer wheel bearing from falling out when removing brake drum.
q   Fill hub with grease -G 052 128 A1- before installing.
13 - Outer wheel bearing
q   Drive out outer race with copper drift.
q   Pressing in → Fig..
14 - Thrust plate
15 - Hexagon nut
q   Adjusting wheel bearing play → Fig..
16 - Locking ring
17 - Grease cap
q   Pressing off → Fig. and → Fig..
q   Driving in → Fig..

   
Pressing off grease cap
Loosen grease cap from seat by tapping lightly on the claw.

  Note
t  Always renew damaged (dented) grease caps.
t  Damaged (dented) grease caps allow ingress of moisture. For this reason it is important to use the tool shown in the illustration.

Adjusting wheel bearing play
  Note
Using a screwdriver it must be possible to move the thrust washer by finger pressure (without leverage).
–  Secure with locking ring and new split pin.

Releasing brake shoe adjustment
–  To do this, insert a screwdriver through a hole in the brake drum and push the wedge upwards.
