Passat GLS L4-1.8L Turbo (AUG) (2001)
ECM Voltage Supply Open Circuit, Followup Procedure
Procedure After Interruption of Voltage Supply
If voltage supply has been interrupted, Engine Control Module (ECM) forgets all adaptation and basic setting values and erases the readiness code.
Depending on vehicle's mileage, this can cause substantial problems with running characteristics.
Special tools and equipment
-
V.A.G 1551 Scan Tool (or VAG 1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG 1551/3B cable
Procedure
Perform the following steps after an interruption in the voltage supply.
-
Switch ignition on for at least 10 seconds.
-
Switch ignition off.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
-
Adapt kick-down shift point.
Continuation for all vehicles
-
Re-generate readiness code.
-
Perform idle test.
-
Perform a longer road test, until problems with running characteristics are eliminated.
The following operating conditions must be obtained during road test:
-
Coolant temperature must rise to above 80 °C.
-
Once the temperature is reached, the following conditions
Idle
Partial throttle
Wide Open Throttle (WOT)
Deceleration mode must be reached several times each.
-
Engine speed must be increased to above 3500 RPM during Wide Open Throttle (WOT).
ECM, Adapting to Throttle Valve Control Module
Engine Control Module (ECM), Adapting to the Throttle Valve Control Module
The adaptation teaches the Engine Control Module (ECM) various positions of the throttle valve when the ignition is on and the engine is stopped. These
positions are stored in the control module Throttle valve position feedback takes place through the two throttle valve drive angle sensors.
The adaptation must be performed if:
-
the throttle valve control module has been removed and reinstalled or was cleaned
-
the throttle valve control module has been replaced
-
another engine has been installed, and another throttle valve control module along with it
-
the Engine Control Module (ECM) was replaced
Special tools and equipment
-
V.A.G 1551 scan tool (or VAG 1552 mobile scan tool) with VAG 1551/3B cable
Test requirements
-
Ignition switched on, engine not running
-
All electrical consumers like, for example, lights and rear window heating must be switched off.
-
Battery voltage must be at least 11.5 volts.
