Shift Cable: Adjustments

Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

‹› Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

The selector lever cable must be adjusted if:

‹› The selector lever cable was removed from the transmission.

‹› The engine and/or transmission were removed and installed.

‹› The cable or selector mechanism were removed and installed.

‹› The engine/transmission position was changed, for example, installed free of tension.

Adjusting

-

Place the selector lever in the "P" position.

Loosen the adjustment bolt - 2 - for the cable - 1 -.

Lightly tap the selector lever handle button forward and backward and make sure to keep the handle in the "P" position. 

Thus, the optimal position of the inner cable is found.

Shift lever/shift rod - 3 - at the transmission in the "P" position (push lever backward).

‹› Raise the vehicle to ensure that the transmission is in the " P" position (parking lock is engaged). Both front wheels must not be able to be turned

together in one direction.

Tighten the adjustment bolt - 2 - to 15 Nm.
