Safety Requirements For Belt Tensioner

Testing, assembly and repair work should only be conducted by trained personnel.

Belt tensioner components should not be opened nor repaired; always use new parts (risk of injury).

Belt tensioner units which take a hard fall or drop to the floor, must not be installed into the vehicle.

Belt tensioner units, which are mechanically damaged (bubbles, tears) must always be replaced.

Storage and transport fall under the laws governing explosive materials.

Return old (removed) components which have not been ignited to Volkswagen of America for disposal.

Install belt tensioner units immediately after removing from transport container.

For disassembly of belt tensioner do not use impact wrench.

If work is interrupted place belt tensioner unit into transport container again.

Do not leave a un-installed belt tensioner unattended.

Belt tensioner unit should not be handled with grease, cleaners or other solutions and do not expose to temperatures over 100 °C even briefly.

The pyrotechnic propellant has no expiration date, this means it can be stored indefinitely and is maintenance free.
