Coding diesel direct injection system control unit -J248-
If the appropriate code for the vehicle is not displayed or if the diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- has been renewed, the control unit must be coded as follows.
Special tools and workshop equipment required
t  Fault reader -V.A.G 1551-
t  Diagnosis lead -V.A.G 1551/3C-
Procedure
–  Connect fault reader -V.A.G 1551- and select engine electronics control unit with “address word 01”. When doing this the ignition must be switched on. (Connecting fault reader and selecting engine electronics control unit → Chapter.)
–  Press the → button.
   
Indicated on display:
–  Press buttons 0 and 7 for function “Coding control unit” and confirm entry with Q button.

On display of fault reader -V.A.G 1551- the control unit identification is indicated, e.g.:
–  Switch ignition off and then on again.
  Note
The coding entered will be activated by switching the ignition off and then on again. If after entering the valid code the ignition is not switched off and on again, the fault “Control unit incorrectly coded” cannot be erased.
–  Adapt diesel direct injection system control unit -J248- to the electronic immobilizer → Chapter
–  Erase fault memory → Chapter.
