  Note
t  Removal and installation is described for the left seat. Apply the same instructions for removal and installation of right seat components as appropriate.
t  Removal and installation are examples and apply to all equipment lines.
Removing
–  Remove front seat → Chapter.
–  Removing front belt buckle → Chapter.
–  Removing seat trim on tunnel side → Chapter.
–  Removing seat trim on sill side:
t  Seat without height adjustment → Chapter.
t  Seat with height adjustment → Chapter.
–  Removing mounting for drawer, if fitted → Chapter.
–  Remove backrest:
t  4-door model → Chapter
   
–  Separate beading strip -2- on bottom of backrest using a screwdriver.
–  Unhook tensioning wires -1-.
  N74-0038
–  Roll up cover far enough that tensioning frame -4- and padding wires -5- on front side are visible.
–  Unhook padding wire -5- from tensioning frame -4- using awl -V.A.G 1636-.
–  Also unhook padding wire from tensioning frame using awl -V.A.G 1636- on rear.
–  Pull cover -1- off over both head restraint guides.
–  Slide padding -3- over both head restraint guides and release from backrest frame -2-.

Installing
  Note
t  In the seat padding in vehicles with a seat heater is renewed, the heating element is also to be renewed.
t  Assure a dust free adhesive area on the padding.
t  Bond heater element fold-free to padding.
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
