Steering Column Switch Components, Removal and Installation Sequence

CAUTION!
‹› Risk of airbag deployment!

‹› The airbag could deploy if the airbag unit is handled incorrectly. 

‹› Observe safety precautions when working on the airbag.

CAUTION!
When disconnecting and connecting battery, the procedure must be followed as described in the Repair Information. Refer to => [
Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] See: Starting and Charging/Tools and Equipment/Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting. 

When removing the complete steering column switches including base carrier, it is disassembled and steering lock housing is also removed with it.
New shear bolts are required for installing steering lock housing.

Also, if only one individual component of steering column switch is removed or replaced, the sequence described in the following must always
be adhered to.

Removal:

Disconnect battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] See: Starting and Charging/Tools and Equipment/Battery,
Disconnecting and Connecting.

Remove the steering wheel.

Remove steering column trim.

Remove steering column switch assembly components in the following sequence:

‹› Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring ( F138), refer to => [ Airbag Spiral Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring ]. See: Airbag Spiral

Spring/Return Spring With Slip Ring

‹› Steering Angle Sensor (G85), refer to => [ Steering Angle Sensor ]. See: Steering Angle Sensor (G85)

‹› Turn Signal Switch (E2), refer to => [ Turn Signal Switch ]. See: Turn Signal Switch (E2)

‹› Windshield Wiper Switch (E), refer to => [ Windshield Wiper Switch ]. See: Windshield Wiper Switch (E)

‹› Base carrier for steering column switches, refer to => [ Steering Column Switch Base Plate ]. See: Steering Column Switch Base Plate

Installation:

Install in reverse order.
