  Note
Removal and installation are described for the continuous backrest. Removal and installation of components for the split backrest are similar.
Removing
–  Remove bench seat → Chapter.
–  Remove backrest → Chapter.
–  Carefully ease cover over lashing eyes using removing wedge -3409-.
–  Remove head restraints → Chapter.
–  Remove trim for locking mechanism → Chapter.
–  Open zipper on cover all round on rear of backrest.
–  Fold over cover at sides.
–  When doing this, carefully guide cover and cushion over head restraint guides.
–  Remove cover and cushion from backrest frame.

–  Cut through the upholstery clips -arrows-.
  Note
Upholstery clips are destroyed during removal. They must be renewed when installing. Use upholstery clip pliers -V.A.G 1634- for this.
–  Cut through the remaining upholstery clips.
–  Remove cover from cushion.
Installing
  N74-10224
  Note
t  Before installing, check all fasteners for damage and renew if necessary.
t  Before installing covers -1- and -2-, make sure that cover lies over all points of backrest release mechanisms.
Install in reverse order of removal.
–  After installing cushion and cover, check and make sure that covers -1- and -2- are completely engaged in backrest locking mechanisms.
