Follow the instructions on page 7 of the service manual, and after installing the coupling flange (page 8), proceed as follows:

Tighten flange nut carefully to 1.5 - 2.0 N-m (1.1 ft.lbs. to 1.4 ft.lbs.) using torque gauge 9177, an extension piece and swivel adapter. Turn torque gauge
at approximately 1 rev/second. Make sure that the brakes are not applied.

Refit propeller shaft.

INSTALLING PINION

(In conjunction with "Assembly rear Axle" page 26).

Install pinion outer races.

Use press tool 2686.

INSTALL PINION REAR BEARING AND ORIGINAL ADJUSTING SHIM(S)

NOTE! Do not use adjusting shim more than twice. If rear axle has already been reconditioned and adjusting shim(s) re-used, install shim P/N 384861-1
1.0 mm (1031).

Press bearing into position using 2395 or 2842.
