INSTALL PINION
(Do not install compression sleeve at this point) Insert pinion by pressing front bearing into position using wrench 2404 and pinion nut.
Tighten nut to obtain a bearing pre-load of 2.5-4.5 N-m (1.8 ft.lbs-3.3 ft.lbs)on a new lubricated bearing or 1.5-2.0 N-m (1.1 ft.lbs-1.4 ft.lbs) if original
bearing is used.
Turn pinion until rollers have centralized and torque stabilized. Use torque gauge 9177. Note torque setting.
PINION POSITION
Pinion to crown wheel center line dimension (A) may vary as a result of production tolerances. Variations are stamped in the end of the pinion. Since the
end surface of the pinion is ground down by 0.30 mm (0.011) in relation to (A), production variations are positive.
Most pinions are marked "30" where 30 represents 30/100 mm.
Position of pinion can be adjusted by adding shims (B) between the end of the pinion and rear bearing.
