Apply thread sealant (e.g. Loctite(R)).

Install:

Tighten pre-tension assembly screw

Place rack in straight-ahead position. Tighten nut to 5.0-5.6 Nm (3.7-4.1 ft.lbs.) using special tool 5296 and torque gauge 9177. Next, loosen
screw 50~-55~ using protractor 5098.

Check pinion torque

Connect torque gauge 9177 to pinion shaft using adaptor 5179. Crank rack back and forth between end positions. Correct torque = 1.0-2.0 N-m (9-18
in.lbs.) If torque is too high at any position, stop rack in that position and readjust pre-tension. If torque is still too high, install a new steering gear. If
torque is to specification, lock nut to valve housing by nipping sides of nut with a punch. Remove special tools and continue with operations B25-B30.
